Pow Wow

Have you ever been to an Indian Pow Wow? We are so lucky to live near Denver, Colorado. Each spring Native Americans from all over the US, and as far away as Canada, gather here for a big celebration of Native American culture.

Our family has attended a few times over the years. We are hoping to attend again this weekend. If you are in the area make sure you go to this event. No, you don't have to be Native American to attend! But if you go, you may get a bit of a taste of what it's like to be a minority. No worries, you will be welcome. You might get a few stares because you are not sporting a beautiful outfit and your clothing is so boring.

A Native American Doll I made a few years ago

What will you see? Many different tribes dancing into the big building at the Denver Coliseum. Beautiful handmade Indian dresses that will take your breath away. Mamas brushing their daughters long hair into smooth beautiful braids. Fine Indian jewelry and crafts around each corner.

What will you hear? The beat of drums and singing. The chanting and tapping of feet on the arena floors. Shouts of joy and celebration. Many different voices and languages.

What are they saying? We are survivors. We are a proud people. We are beautiful!

Hopefully I'll get a few nice photos with my camera. If I do I will gladly share them with you.

Sounds like fun. We've been to one here in NM. Haven't been in years though.
