Veggie Pizzas

I have had so much fun cooking with all the fresh veggies and herbs from our garden this summer. Last night I made the most delicious pizza pies. My daughter and I made the crust from scratch. We prefer to make crusts that are partly wholewheat flour. I like it because it gives the crust a lovely nutty flavor. The extra fiber in the diet can't hurt either, I suppose.




Here is my pizza crust recipe in case you want to try it:

2 cups regular flour
2 cups wholewheat flour
2 Tsp corn meal
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 - 1 1/2 cup warm water
2 1/2 tsp yeast
1/4 olive oil

mix together by hand or in food processor until you have a lovely stretchy dough. If too sticky add more flour. If too dry add a bit more warm water...let it rise for about an hour

punch the dough down and knead by hand, then roll out into individual pizzas, I get about four 12 inch pizzas from this amount of dough

topping option number 1


make some seasoned tomato pulp by cutting up fresh tomatoes from the garden (or use canned tomatoes) chopped up finely, add a couple pinches of salt, 3 Tsp olive oil, clove of garlic minced
spread this on your rolled pizza dough, top with some shredded mozzarella cheese, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese, sprinkle a bit more salt on top

bake this in oven at temperature of 450 degree until edges turn brown and cheese begins to brown
take out and sprinkle with pieces of prosciutto, and top with fresh arugula and more grated Parmesan.

Topping option number 2


brush rolled out pizza crusts with some olive oil
top with goat cheese chunks, kalamata olives, banana peppers, and some fire roasted red peppers
finish off with grated mozzarella cheese on top

bake in oven at 450 until edges turn brown - about 10- 12 minutes per pizza pie

this recipe will feed a family of 4 plus leave you with some nice leftovers for lunch the next day.

nightgowns for waldorf dolls

Faded Glory

It's been very quiet on this blog. I hope you have not missed me too much. I just have not had much to say.

Now I don't even have the excuse of having to watch soccer games any more. Of course, I am very happy that Germany won the Soccer World Cup. It brought back sweet childhood memories... After all it has been a long long time since my country won this thing. I pretty much had to wait half of my life to see it happen once again. It seems so weird when you start to count your years in World Cup events. By the time the next one rolls around my baby boy will be off to college. Very odd.

Well, not too many folks around here care about soccer anyways. My daughter painted my nails in the colors of the German flag. It was fun. I had not painted my nails since my teenage years. Now they are all chipped, and it's time to take off that nail polish.

Other than celebrating the German soccer success I have been working on retaking a lot of the pictures in my etsy shop. Folks from my Etsy team told me that having a watermark was distracting from the beauty of my work. I also learned that it is not a good idea to take shots of dolls' faces looking down. I was told that it makes them look like they are ashamed or something. Poor babies! They are good kids, I swear!

So alas, I am working hard on bringing a fresh look to my shop. Please, feel free to let me know if you have any other suggestions.

germandolls Christmas in July SALE

I hope you had a good Fourth of July with the fam! I most certainly did. lots of parties to go to. People and Parties. that is what the holiday is about, right? I love it. it's always one of the highlights of the summer.

then as a bonus, on top of all the fun, the German soccer team managed to win another game and make it into the next round of the World Cup. I was happy that the host of the party I went to let me watch the game on their lovely flatscreen TV. Nobody cared about the soccer but folks do understand cheering for your team... Yay! Go Germany!

 with all the excitement about Fussball I realized this weekend that I forgot to create the annual Christmas in July event in my etsyshop. So here it is.
